Each Year Canadians Throw Away 1.6 Billion Disposable Paper Cups
Single use disposable paper cups are not recyclable nor compostable since they have an inner coating of polyethylene. The process of recycling disposable paper cups is difficult and very expensive and they cannot be remade into paper. As a result, most Canadian cities do not currently have a recycling program for disposable cups.
The best solution is to bring your own reusable cup when visiting coffee shops. In addition to being great for the environment, some coffee shops now offer a discount when you bring your own cup!
